| Otavalo more than the indigenous market
The indigenous town of Otavalo has a millenary origin.
Long time before the Incas inhabited the northern
region of Ecuador, the groups that dwelled the area developed many
skills in agriculture, astronomy, botany and other sciences that
let them built one of the most advanced cultures in South America.
The archaeological remains found in the Otavalo region,
specially stone pieces, ceramics, metals and animal fibers, became
the witnesses that show and confirm this people through the knowledge
and domain of many techniques could develop their art and visualize
their culture. It is because of latest researches we can understand
the purpose of the manufacture of many of the different artifacts.
Furthermore, all of these artifacts were used for
their rituals, agriculture, decoration among other uses, are the
symbol of the cultural and scientific heritage of the Otavalo people.
